Hi there!
I'm Saz, the storyteller behind Studio Gemini.
I'm a fine art portrait, commercial, and visual branding photographer based in El Paso, Texas, creating imagery inspired by mythology, storytelling, and the extraordinary found within everyday life.
People often ask what inspires my work, and I never quite know how to answer in a single sentence.
The honest answer is that I've always been captivated by worlds that never truly existed and civilizations that no longer do. I find myself returning to mythology from cultures across the world, forgotten histories, gothic romanticism, speculative futures, and stories that ask impossible questions. I've never been drawn to them because they offer an escape from reality. If anything, they've always helped me understand it more deeply. There is something about mythology, symbolism, and imagination that gives shape to thoughts and emotions we struggle to explain in ordinary language. Perhaps that's why art has always felt so necessary to me.
Long before I ever picked up a camera, I was fascinated by the idea that people carry entire worlds within them. We spend so much of our lives presenting the versions of ourselves that are expected, practical, or familiar, yet beneath that lives something far richer. There are dreams we've never spoken aloud, strengths we've fought hard to earn, contradictions we've learned to carry, and pieces of ourselves that rarely have the opportunity to exist out in the open. That is what I think about when I create.
I don't see portraiture as a way to preserve a moment in time. Moments pass. What interests me is creating artwork that continues to reveal something every time you return to it. I want the portraits we create together to feel less like documentation and more like discovery and empowerment. Not because they transform you into someone else, but because they allow you to see something that has always been there.
The influences woven throughout my work: mythology, symbolism, fine art, history, literature, and imagined worlds, are never costumes placed on top of a person. They are visual languages that help express identity in ways reality sometimes cannot. I don't create fantasy for the sake of fantasy. I create worlds that allow truth to become visible.
That is why every commission begins with conversation. Before we ever discuss wardrobe, locations, lighting, or concepts, I simply want to get to know you. I'm endlessly curious about what inspires people. I want to know which stories have stayed with you, what kind of art makes you lose track of time, what ideas you find yourself returning to, and what parts of yourself have always felt difficult to describe. Those conversations aren't separate from the creative process. They are the creative process. They become the foundation upon which every artistic decision is made.
When the camera finally comes out, it feels less like the beginning of the work and more like the natural continuation of a conversation we've already started.
Although Studio Gemini is known for fine art portraiture, that same philosophy shapes every commission I accept. Whether I'm creating visual branding for an entrepreneur, editorial imagery, commercial photography, or portraits celebrating the extraordinary relationship between people and the animals they love, I'm asking the same question each time: How can this become more than a photograph?
The camera hasn't always been my medium, but it has become my purpose.
What fascinates me is the relationship between art and science. I love the precision of light, optics, color, and composition just as much as I love philosophy, symbolism, and storytelling. One allows the other to exist. Technical craftsmanship gives me the freedom to create intentionally, while imagination gives that craftsmanship meaning. To me, they have never been opposites. They are partners in the same creative process.
I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Commercial Photography because I believe meaningful artwork deserves exceptional craftsmanship. Learning the science behind photography has never diminished its magic for me. If anything, it has deepened my appreciation for what becomes possible when technical knowledge is placed in service of an idea.
Over the years, I've realized that my work isn't for everyone, and I find that comforting rather than limiting. The people who feel most at home here are often those who have always been drawn to beauty with depth, to symbolism over spectacle, and to artwork that invites them to linger rather than simply look. They find themselves captivated by old stories, forgotten civilizations, mythology, powerful femininity, imagined futures, and the enduring questions that have connected humanity across time. They don't come to Studio Gemini looking for photographs alone. They come because they're searching for artwork that feels personal, thoughtful, and unmistakably their own.
If you've found yourself reading this page and quietly thinking, "This feels familiar," then perhaps it isn't because we share the same taste in photography.
Perhaps we simply share a way of seeing the world.
If that's true, then I have a feeling we're going to create something extraordinary together.
Looking back, photography feels less like where my story began and more like where so many of my interests finally converged. Earning my Bachelor of Fine Arts deepened my understanding of art history, symbolism, mythology, and visual storytelling, while my work in branding strategy and digital marketing taught me how imagery shapes the way people connect with ideas, businesses, and one another. Together, they continue to influence every portrait I create, grounding imagination in intention and artistry in purpose.
Studio Gemini is based in El Paso, Texas, and welcomes clients from Las Cruces, throughout Southern New Mexico, and wherever curiosity leads. Whether you're dreaming of a fine art portrait, visual branding imagery, editorial work, or a deeply personal creative commission, I'd love to begin with a conversation. The most meaningful artwork always starts the same way, with someone willing to imagine what is possible.
